EMDR Intensive Therapy

EMDR Intensive Sessions

EMDR intensives are concentrated, extended sessions lasting 5 hours, allowing you to focus on long-lasting healing and improvement. Research has shown EMDR intensives to be effective and efficient, reducing symptoms of PTSD, decreasing adverse reactions, and decreasing the duration of treatment.

EMDR Intensive Therapy allows you to condense the therapeutic process and progress over a shorter period than weekly sessions.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EMDR INTENSIVE THERAPY?

  • Significantly reduce symptoms related to PTSD in a short amount of time
  • Extended, focused time for processing and healing
  • More processing occurs during each EMDR Intensive because less time is spent checking in and reviewing the week.
  • More focused stabilization and resource development through this structured approach
  • Although there is a higher upfront financial and time commitment, EMDR Intensives can reduce the time spent in therapy overall.

WHAT DOES EMDR INTENSIVE THERAPY LOOK LIKE?

A. EMDR Assessment: You and I will collaborate to identify goals and develop a plan that works for you.

B. EMDR Intensive Treatment: In-person or virtual 5-hour sessions. We will take a break where you can stretch, get a drink, or take a short walk. You can also use this time to do mindfulness exercises to re-regulate as needed.

C. EMDR Intensive Follow-up: A 15-minute phone check-in during the week following the EMDR Intensive Treatment session.

ARE EMDR INTENSIVES A GOOD FIT FOR ME?

  • Your schedule makes it difficult to commit to weekly sessions.
  • You love your current therapist but want to work for a focused time with an EMDR therapist to process specific memories.
  • You don’t want to be in therapy for months or years.

WHAT IS THE COST OF EMDR INTENSIVES?

EMDR Intensive sessions are self-pay based on 3-hour sessions.

  • 5-hour intensive during regular business hours - $650
  • 5-hour intensive during evenings and weekends - $800
  • A 50% deposit is required at the time of scheduling.  The remaining 50% will be collected at the time of the intensive session. Deposits are non-refundable.

WHAT IF I’M ALREADY IN THERAPY?

That’s fine!  I can collaborate with your ongoing therapist to help identify goals and areas to focus on with the EMDR Intensive sessions.

DO WE HAVE TO MEET IN PERSON, OR CAN WE MEET VIRTUALLY?

Either is fine!  I can help you find the best fit and develop a plan around in-person or virtual EMDR Intensives.

Research on intensive EMDR Intensive therapy is positive

  • Intensive application of trauma-focused treatment seems to be well tolerated in patients with PTSD, enabling faster symptom reduction with similar, or even better, results while reducing the risk that patients drop out prematurely. Learn more here and here.
  • Intensive EMDR treatment is feasible and is indicative of reliable improvement in PTSD symptoms in a concise time frame. Learn more here.
  • An intensive program using EMDR therapy is a potentially safe and effective treatment alternative for complex PTSD. Learn more here.
  • The random control studies are compelling: even compared to other trauma therapies, the intensive format may decrease treatment time because time is not spent on a) checking in at the beginning of each weekly session or b) assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of each 50-minute session.
